Postpartum Care

The postpartum period should not be an afterthought, it is a vital, sacred window of healing that shapes a mother’s health for years, even generations, to come.

Postpartum care is crucial, and yet it is most often a missing piece of women’s health care in the modern world. When done well, proper postpartum care has the potential to:

Support a mother in becoming healthier than she was even before pregnancy • Protect long‑term pelvic, hormonal, and nervous system health • Reduce the risk of depletion, burnout, anxiety, and postpartum mood disorders • Support deep bonding and a confident transition into motherhood • Strengthen primary relationships and the wider family system • Complete the rite of passage of birth, allowing a woman to fully step into the role of Mother • Create ripples of health and stability that extend into future generations

Across cultures and time, postpartum traditions have shared the same deep wisdom: when a mother is properly cared for after birth, she does not simply recover ~ she thrives. When a mother is thriving, her family will be too.

My postpartum care offerings are rooted in this cross‑cultural, time‑honored understanding: that communities care for mothers, so mothers can care for their babies. This work is about creating the conditions for deep recovery, steadiness, and nourishment ~ so you are not simply surviving the postpartum period, but truly supported within it.

True postpartum care centers around a few essential pillars:

Rest

an extended period of slowing down, allowing the body to repair tissues, ligaments, and organs after the immense work of pregnancy and birth.

Warmth

for the body, the womb, digestion, and nervous system. Warmth supports healing, milk production, bonding, and the release of oxytocin.

Nourishing Food

warm, easy‑to‑digest, nutrient‑dense meals that replenish minerals, rebuild strength, and support breastfeeding without depletion. more info here

Bodywork

gentle, supportive touch that helps the body return to balance, encourages circulation, and allows the nervous system to deeply rest.

Community

steady, loving support that allows a mother to be held, witnessed, and relieved of daily demands so her energy can go toward healing and bonding

How I Support You

My postpartum care is gentle, attentive, and deeply personalised. I support you in slowing down and being cared for ~ so your body can do what it already knows how to do.

This may include:

• Creating a calm, grounded postpartum environment where rest is protected • Preparing and providing warm, nutrient‑dense food through my Postpartum Kitchen • Gentle bodywork and supportive touch to encourage circulation, healing, and nervous system regulation • Emotional presence, listening, and reassurance as you move through the tender initiation of early motherhood • Practical support that lightens your daily load, allowing you to focus on healing and bonding with your baby

This work is not about fixing or rushing you. It is about holding you ~ physically, emotionally, and practically ~ during one of the most vulnerable and powerful transitions of your life.

You do not need to do this alone. You deserve to be looked after, nourished, and supported as you recover, bond, and settle into motherhood.

  • “Imogen guided me through my first (and only, to date) pregnancy and labour. I spoke to a few doulas before choosing Imogen for her particularly warm demeanour and non-dogmatic approach. She was really fantastic throughout, and really came into her own during my 36-hour labour. She was in touch with me and my husband from the minute the labour started and was physically present for the last 20 hours of it, first at home and then in hospital. She was firmly reassuring and calm, which I especially appreciated in the moments when I felt like I was losing my grip on reality. I am still not sure that labour can be beautiful, but Imogen is definitely the reason that mine was not traumatic (and went largely to plan and without complications), despite the incredibly broken medical bureaucracy around it.”

  • "Imogen helped us to bring our beautiful son safely into this world. Having her by our side to prepare us during the weeks before and to guide us throughout my labour made me feel like we were an invincible team. The best cheerleader, support (emotionally and physically!), and teacher, Imogen helped me to birth my son in the way that I wanted. Her subsequent care and love has allowed me to remember his birth as something of which I will always be incredibly proud. She is truly an angel whom we are now privileged to consider part of our family."
